Wilkhahn 100 years+

This type of chair is traditionally made of wicker, popular on the German coast and perfect for staying warm and dry. Walter Papst invented his own version of the "adjustable seat and lounger with weather-protecting hood" and filed it for patent in 1968.

Unfortunately two reasons prevented this innovative product from becoming a runaway success. Firstly, people renting out the chairs usually made the chairs themselves during the winter months, and secondly Papst's chairs were not aerodynamic enough. The corporate archive includes a photo report by "Kieler Nachrichten", showing the Wilkhahn beach chairs on the firth.
